Guide for newcomers: Cross-border commuters
Are you working in Denmark but living in another country? Here, you can see how the rules for cross-border commuters are put together.
A cross-border commuter is an EU/EEA citizen who:
- Works in Denmark
- Maintains their place of residence/national registration in their home country
- Returns to their country of residence either daily or weekly
Cross-border commuters do not need to apply for a residence or work permit or an EU Certificate of Registration in Denmark.
Immediately after they have been employed in Denmark, cross-border commuters must contact SKAT, the Danish Tax and Customs Administration, in the municipality in which their workplace is domiciled.
