Traffic and transport

The Municipality of Norddjurs is known as the municipality with good connections. A central location on Djursland offers relatively short transport times to both Aarhus and Randers, and road connections are continually being expanded.

Road network

East Jutland is connected to the rest of Denmark by a good road network, including, for example, the E45 motorway which runs all the way from Skagen in northern Jutland to Messina in Italy, and the new Djursland motorway, which links Djurs with the rest of East Jutland.

Bicycle paths and routes

In addition to the road network, there are also good conditions for cyclists. There are bicycle paths along many heavily trafficked roads, and bicycle routes that take you through some of the best countryside in East Jutland. In some places, city bikes can be used free of charge, although you need a DKK 20 coin to unlock the bike.

Public transport

Public transport includes both city and regional buses as well as trains that efficiently convey you from A to B. There are also other ways of getting to and from East Jutland by air and sea.

Access to motorway E45 has thus continually been improved, Norddjurs participates in the collaboration on the establishment of a light railway from Aarhus, and the municipality is focusing on creating good possibilities and facilitating access to the area for commuters – both commuters in own cars and those taking buses, trains and other public transport. The municipality’s activities comprise infrastructure, a concept which covers roads, public transport, goods transport, technical installations and digital infrastructure.

The majority of the municipality’s roads, with the exception of main roads and private roads, are constructed by the municipality. In this context, road-user safety is an important aspect. Public traffic is buses, trains and publicly-owned ferries. The public traffic offering is important to the municipality’s citizens, business community and visitors as an alternative to using cars.

The planning of technical installations such as transport and communications installations, supply plants, environmental installations, waste disposal plants and other technical plants and facilities is based on a planning which takes nature, the surroundings and the general need into account.
