Guaranteed childcare

In Denmark, all children are guaranteed childcare.

Denmark offers guaranteed childcare. This means that all children in Denmark must be offered day care, i.e. a place at a nursery, childminder, kindergarten or other types of day care.

As a result of the childcare guarantee, your municipality must allocated a place to all children from when they are 26 weeks old and until they start school. If a child’s parents want a place as soon as the child is 26 weeks old, the municipality has an additional four weeks to offer a place.

You are responsible for meeting the municipality’s deadlines.
